Privacy policy

Flight is a focus timer you fly, at flightsession.app. This policy explains what information Flight handles when you use the app, the free tools and this website, why, and the choices you have.

The short version: there are no accounts. Flight never asks for your precise location. Your settings and flights stay in your browser. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and if you buy a paid plan, Dodo Payments handles the payment.

What we collect, and why

Your approximate location

To start your flights from the airport nearest you, we look up the city your IP address belongs to. Usually our hosting provider, Vercel, adds it to each request; if it can't, our server or your browser asks an IP lookup service (geojs.io, ipwho.is or ipapi.co). We use it only to pick your default airport and to greet you, and we don't store it. Flight never asks for your device's precise location.

Your settings and flights, on your device

Your default airport, units, clock and sound settings, the flight you're on, and your Pomodoro timer settings are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device and aren't sent to us. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

How people use Flight

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages and features they use, and roughly where they're from. It uses cookies, and collects things like the pages you visit, your browser and device type, the site that sent you, and your approximate location. We don't send it your name or email address. You can block it with Google's opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

Notifications

If you turn on landing notifications, your browser shows them from your own device. We don't use a push service, and nothing about them is sent to us.

When you contact us

If you email us, we keep the conversation so we can help you. If you use the feedback form, what you write is collected by Tally, the form's provider, and passed on to us.

Payments

If you buy a paid plan, the payment is handled by Dodo Payments, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Dodo Payments collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details to take the payment, charge the right tax and send your receipt, under its own privacy policy. We never see your full card details. We receive your email address, what you bought and the payment's status, so we can give you access, help you, and handle refunds.

Who else handles data

  • Vercel hosts Flight. Like any web host, it keeps server logs, which include IP addresses.
  • Apple Maps or Mapbox draws the map. Your browser loads the map from them, so they see your IP address and the part of the map you're looking at.
  • geojs.io, ipwho.is and ipapi.co look up the city of an IP address when our host can't.
  • Google Analytics measures visits, as described above.
  • Tally runs the feedback form.
  • Dodo Payments handles payments, as described above.

Each handles data under its own privacy policy. Some of them process data in other countries, including the United States.

What we don't do

  • We don't sell your personal information, or share it for advertising.
  • We don't use advertising cookies or build advertising profiles.
  • We don't ask for more than Flight needs to work.

Cookies and local storage

  • Google Analytics cookies (named _ga, and _ga_ followed by an ID) tell visits apart. They're for measurement only.
  • Local storage keeps your settings, your flight and your Pomodoro settings on your device, as described above.

How long we keep it

  • Your approximate location: not kept.
  • Local storage: until you clear it.
  • Analytics: up to 14 months, after which Google Analytics deletes it.
  • Emails: for as long as we need them to help you.
  • Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and the UK, the CCPA in California, or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy of it, to correct it, to have it deleted, and to object to or limit how we use it. Email suryanarayanan7798@gmail.com and we'll reply within a month. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

Flight isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.

Security

Flight is served only over HTTPS, and we keep what we collect to the minimum the app needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change matters, we'll say so on the site.
