Rain for focus

Steady rain works like pink noise: it fills the background evenly, so a colleague's voice or a notification stands out less. The closer and denser the rain, the better it masks; light drops are better for relaxing than for drowning out an office. Pair it with a Pomodoro timer to get going, or try pink noise for the same effect without any detail.

Questions

Are these real rain recordings?

Yes. Each is a field recording: three from Freesound, released into the public domain, and the storm from Pixabay. They play as endless beds, crossfading between long stretches of the recording, so there's no loop to notice.

Why is rain so relaxing?

Rain is a natural pink-ish noise: a steady spread of sound with no sudden changes, which masks the noises that would otherwise grab your attention. For many people it's also tied to being indoors and safe.

Can I fall asleep to it?

Yes. Pick a sound, set the volume low, and choose a timer so it fades out after you're asleep.

Is it free?

Completely: no ads, no sign-up, nothing to install.
